Watching a Bull Run at San Fermin

by Jeannie on July 17, 2012

Well folks, we did it! And survived.  We can’t wait to tell you how our run went, but first, I thought you might want to know what it’s like to watch a bull run, which we did on July 8th, the day before our own run. We managed to book balcony space at Mercaderes and Estafeta, considered ‘deadman’s corner’, where the bulls might crash into the barricades. Crazy and exciting.

Here’s the YouTube video:

For a full account read it on my blog.

Have you watched one before and what did you think afterwards?

We watched from a balcony on Estafeta the day before we ran. It was so exciting to see everything from above. We also had the TV on in the background so we could see what was going on at other points in the course. Which was: a bull getting separated and going crazy. A few gorings, and one death–this was 2009. As for what I thought afterwards: “Holy Crap. Are we REALLY running tomorrow?!”

Seriously? Is that it?

You set up this website, a twitter account, got sponsors, did interviews, created a bunch of hype about being a bunch of female writers running with the bulls, and three weeks later, all you have written/posted here about the incredible fiesta and your experience running the bulls is a one paragraph “we did it and we survived!” blurb? Talk about a let down. Maybe you’re not real writers after all…

Hi Jake,

I’m sorry you felt this way. Immediately after the run the girls first priority was to fulfil our sponsorship requirements on our own personal blogs. Many of the girls had additional travel plans – with Oneika off to Egypt, Jeannie travelling through Europe and Nicole S. travelling back to Australia.

We do hope to have more information up on this site leading up to the 2013 run and hope you’ll continue to support us, whether reading this site or our blogs, for the most up-to-date information about the run.

Thank you for your comment and again, we’re sorry if you feel we have let you down.

Best,
Nicole S.

Wow my heart actually started racing watching that video! I can’t believe that one guy in the corner didn’t get trucked. He now has 8 lives.

Thanks, CaSandra!

I, Nicole S., hope to more consistently update the site over the next year to provide the best and most useful information to help you run smartly and safely.
Is there anything in particular you’d like to know about Pamplona, Spain, the San Fermin festival or the run?

Good luck with you planning and please keep checking back for up-to-date info!
